Frostburg State University Joins the Capital Athletic Conference for 2010-11 Season
FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State University has accepted an invitation to become a member of the Capital Athletic Conference, it was announced by FSU President Jonathan Gibralter, CAC President Sean Sullivan and CAC Commissioner Tom Byrnes. Frostburg will become an official member of the league on July 1, 2010, and start athletic competition that fall.

Shows Positive Influence of Higher CEO Pay on Firm’s Competitiveness

Research indicating a positive relationship between higher-paid CEOs and a company’s competitiveness earned a paper co-authored by Dr. Evan Offstein, an assistant professor of management in Frostburg State University’s College of Business, recognition as Best Paper by the international journal “Group & Organization Management,” which focuses on organizational behavior, organization theory, business strategy and human resources.

Carl and Jane Belt, along with the Belt Construction Group of Companies, have expressed their commitment to Frostburg State University through the FSU Foundation with a generous pledge that places them in the Foundation’s Lillian C. Compton Society, denoting yearly contributions of $5,000 or more.

Frostburg State University Announces Scholarship for Full-Time Study in Special Education
Beginning with the 2009 fall semester, a scholarship funded by the Howard and Audrey Naylor Family Trust for full-time graduate study will be available to certified teachers in the local or extended Appalachian region who are interested in obtaining a Master of Education – Special Education degree from Frostburg State University. The program is offered on FSU’s campus in Frostburg and at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown at 32 W. Washington St.

Frostburg State University students showed their dedication to health and wellness during the course of the “Are You the Biggest Loser on Campus?” competition. Twenty teams participated during the course of the two-month long event, which began March 2 and ran through May 2.

Frostburg State University, FSU Foundation Help Fund Protective Gear for Frostburg Ambulance
Frostburg State University and the FSU Foundation Inc. have donated a total of $8,000 to pay for the purchase of bloodborne pathogen protective suits for members of the Frostburg Area Ambulance Service. FSU gave $6,000, and the Foundation donated $2,000.

Two Millennia of Service to FSU
Nearly 90 retirees of Frostburg State University gathered June 3 for a photo by the Compton Science Center’s Foucault pendulum during a luncheon in their honor in the Compton Atrium. Representing approximately 2,000 years of service to the institution, with some individuals starting at Frostburg as early as 1950, these retirees were given an update on FSU’s current situation and future plans.

Phi Mu to Reopen Chapter at Frostburg State University
National Sorority Joining With Local Kappa Tau Epsilon

Phi Mu, the nation’s second oldest sorority, has been invited to open at Frostburg State University during the next school year, after an absence of about a decade. Phi Mu will reopen its Phi Iota Chapter by recruiting new members and absorbing the local sorority Kappa Tau Epsilon, an organization that values sisterhood, leadership, responsibility and philanthropic endeavors.

Alpha Sigma Alpha National Sorority Establishes Chapter at FSU
National Group to “Colonize” With Local Alpha Gamma

The national council of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority has accepted the invitation to “colonize” at Frostburg State University, establishing a new chapter with the local sorority, Alpha Gamma. The local chapter is an active FSU group and was recently named Sorority Chapter of the Year at FSU’s annual Greek Stars of Excellence Banquet.

Applebee’s, FSU Colleges Against Cancer Team Up
American Cancer Society's Colleges Against Cancer Chapter at Frostburg State University hosted its first Dining to Donate event at the LaVale Applebee’s on April 14. For every party that brought in a flyer, the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of FSU received a donation of 15 percent of the cost of that party’s meal from Applebee’s. With Applebee’s support, $302.41 was raised that evening. During a visit to the Frostburg State University Foundation’s new offices in the Lyric Building on Frostburg’s Main Street, Kathy Getty, Susquehanna Bank regional president, hands a check to Bernard J. Davisson II, Frostburg State University vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the FSU Foundation Inc. The check represents an unrestricted gift to the FSUF Annual Fund in support of Staking Our Claim: The Campaign for Frostburg. Unrestricted gifts allow the institution the most flexibility in responding to immediate needs. The FSU Foundation has embarked on this $15 million comprehensive campaign to raise badly needed funding for higher education in Western Maryland.
