Frostburg State University’s Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance will present “The Revolutionists” by Lauren Gunderson, under the direction of Nicole Mattis, on March 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m., March 7 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and March 8, International Women’s Day, at 2 p.m. in the F. Perry Smith Studio Theatre of the Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. “The Revolutionists" is recommended for ages 13 and older.

Four beautiful badass women lose their heads in this girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antionette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we go about changing the world.

With performances by Gracie Ray (Olympe de Gouges), Grace Stevenson (Marianne Angelle), Shay Fochtman (Marie Antionette), and Kenzie Pein (Charlotte Corday), “The Revolutionists” is a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold.

Creative Team Members include Mackenzie Guynes (stage management), Rachel Saylor (costume design), George Georgeson (scenic/lighting design), Kyle Wolford (sound design), Elijah Reed (properties design), Finley Manocchio (assistant costume design), TJ Kelly (assistant scenic design), and Daniel Wade (dramaturgy), and Cheyenne Daisey (swing/understudy).
