Frostburg State University’s Department of Music, Theatre and Dance is excited to present senior Maxwell Partlow in his recital titled Max Partlow & His Swingin’ Organ Trio play “Songs That Cry” on Sunday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m. in the F. Perry Smith Studio Theatre of the Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.

Partlow will perform on tenor saxophone, joined by a dynamic guest trio: Tom Harrison on organ, Daniel Hicks on drum set, and Samuel White on trumpet. This ensemble configuration promises a vibrant, swinging exploration of jazz standards and beloved tunes.

Under the guidance of FSU instructors Dr. Brent Weber (saxophone) and Mr. Tom Harrison (keyboard), Partlow has curated a program that celebrates the expressive, emotive side of jazz repertoire—fitting the evocative title “Songs That Cry.”

The program includes “Ruby my Dear” and “Misterioso” by Thelonious Monk, “Fiddler on the Roof” by Jerry Bock, “You and I” by Stevie Wonder, “You’re Everything” by Chick Corea, “Edda” by Wayne Shorter, “Una Mas” by Kenny Dorham, and “Darn That Dream” by Jimmy Van Heusen.

A native of Dundalk, Md., Partlow graduated from Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts in 2021. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music with emphases in saxophone performance and music education. Partlow has earned Dean’s List recognition and is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). He anticipates graduating in Spring 2026 and plans to become a public-school music teacher while continuing to perform and gig professionally on the side.

This senior recital marks a significant milestone in Partlow’s musical journey at FSU, showcasing his growth as a performer and his passion for jazz. The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance invites the community to join in celebrating this talented graduating senior and enjoy an afternoon of soulful, swinging jazz.
