FSU Engineering Programs Continue ABET Accreditation Through 2032

abet logoFrostburg State University’s Engineering (B.S.) program, with concentrations in Electrical Engineering and Materials Engineering, has earned continued accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, reaffirming the program’s commitment to excellence in engineering education and continuous improvement.

The program’s current ABET accreditation cycle extends through 2032. FSU’s Mechanical Engineering Collaborative Program also maintains continued ABET accreditation, with its current accreditation cycle extending through 2030.

“This continued ABET accreditation reaffirms the excellence and dedication of our Engineering program faculty, staff and students. It validates our commitment to delivering a rigorous, industry-relevant education and preparing our graduates to lead and innovate,” said Sudhir Singh, PhD, Dean of the College of Business, Engineering, Computing and Analytics. “I am grateful to our campus community and industry partners for their ongoing support."           

ABET accreditation is globally recognized as evidence that an engineering program meets established quality standards and prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to enter professional practice. The rigorous accreditation process evaluates areas including students, curriculum, faculty, facilities, institutional support, student outcomes and processes for continuous improvement.

The continued accreditation of FSU’s Engineering (B.S.) program reflects the sustained work of faculty and staff in curriculum development, assessment, laboratory enhancement, student advising and experiential learning. The program is administered by the Department of Engineering and Sustainable Technologies.

FSU also offers the Engineering at AACC (B.S.) partnership program with Anne Arundel Community College. The program allows students to complete an Associate of Science or Associate of Science in Engineering degree at AACC before earning an FSU bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Electrical Engineering through courses offered at the AACC campus and via distance learning.

The accreditation review also found that the University’s supporting units, including admissions, career services, chemistry, institutional assessment, information technology, library, mathematics, physics and the registrar, provide adequate support for the engineering programs.

The Department of Engineering and Sustainable Technologies also recognizes the valuable contributions of its Engineering Advisory Board, whose professional expertise and industry perspective help ensure that FSU’s curricula and educational objectives remain responsive to the evolving needs of the engineering profession and the industries served by its graduates. The hard work, dedication and achievements of FSU engineering students likewise play an important role in the continued success of the University’s engineering programs.
